The Coin Purses is an expansion of the energy of the Pocketbook Movement. Black girls, who have their own experience their own story to tell, and their own challenges, are opening up in a dialogue that keeps it open, safe, and real for parents to talk about the unspeakable of the modern times in which we live. Perhaps their situations are similar to their mothers, aunties, or cousins, but the options to bridge their choices and decisions for their sexual safety and life sanity need a new spotlight of candor because the risks are higher for our girls.

The Time is Now to Raise the Dialogue with Our Coin Purses

The latest CDC March 2008 study, the first to examine the combined national prevalence of common sexually transmitted diseases among adolescent girls, shows 1 in 4 teens has an STD.
"High STD rates among young women, particularly African-American young women, are clear signs that we must continue developing ways to reach those most at risk." -Dr. John Douglas, Director CDC’s STD Prevention Division
